Excess Annual Leave Automatic Carryover

Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, associates have had challenges using their annual leave, resulting in excess leave hours for some.  To assist in mitigating the potential for leave loss, an automatic annual leave carryover up to 80 hours has been approved.  This is for associates who are not able to use annual leave in excess of their maximum carryover limit by the leave cut-off date. The excess leave carried over must be used by 27 Aug 2021.

Associates should continue to make every effort to use their excess annual leave before the leave cut-off date.  If an associate has 80 excess hours or less remaining on the cut-off date, these hours will automatically be carried over; with no action required of the associate.

Annual leave scheduling and approval should be directed to your supervisor.

Excess Annual Leave Automatic Carryover

In October, leadership approved the automatic annual leave carryover of up to 80 hours into 2021 to assist associates that have had challenges using their annual leave due to the pandemic. This is for associates who are not able to use annual leave in excess of their maximum carryover limit by 25 Dec 2020 (leave cut-off date). For example, associates who are authorized to carry up to 240 hours each year are now authorized to carry up to 320 hours into 2021. The excess leave carried over must be used by 3 Sep 2021.

Want to check your leave balance?

Associates who accrue leave can check their leave balance in Employee Self-Service (ESS) under the “Employment” tab (example below). This ESS tab will also display the amount of leave that must be taken by the 25 Dec 2020 leave cut-off date.

Associates should continue to make every effort to use their excess annual leave before the leave cut-off date.  If an associate has 80 excess hours or less remaining on the cut-off date, these hours will automatically be carried over; with no action required of the associate.
