As you are preparing to file your taxes, you may have noticed on your W-2 in box 14 OTHER -- SAL REDI. What does this mean?
This is a portion of your income that is pre-taxed. Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code permits employees to pay group insurance premiums with before-tax dollars. This is a Significant benefit for participants as it reduces the employee taxable income. The Exchange implemented this provision in 1987. Group medical, dental, life, and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) premiums are paid with before-tax dollars (if you elected Section 125 during enrollment). Salary redirect does not apply to disability (DIP) coverage.
Your paycheck stub shows the YTD salary redirection which includes the amont not subject to Federal, state, and FICA taxes.
