Updated Mask Guidelines for Vaccinated Persons

On 13 May 2021, the Deputy Secretary of Defense issued a memorandum updating the mask guidelines for fully vaccinated persons. The memorandum references the recent update to CDC guidelines and states the following:

  • DoD personnel who are fully vaccinated (at least two weeks beyond their final dose) are no longer required to wear a mask indoors or outdoors at DoD facilities, to include AAFES stores, administrative offices and HQs buildings.
  • Personnel who are not fully vaccinated should continue to follow DoD mask guidance, including wearing masks indoors.
  • All DoD personnel should continue to comply with CDC guidance regarding areas where mask should be worn, including airports, regardless of vaccination status.
  • Associates should not be asked about their vaccination status.

Based on local command direction, mask guidance may differ by installation (i.e., overseas locations). Associates should adhere to guidance released by local command. Additional communication will be provided as Force Health Protection guidance is updated and released.

The decision to continue to wear a mask and/or social distance is an individual choice and must be respected. For CDC information on activities fully vaccinated individuals can resume, click here.
